Linda Chung July 10th, 2008New song
As Linda Chung promised last week, her new song has just premiered on the radio today. Possibly the first single off her upcoming LP slated for release on August 20, the song is a remake of a song sung by very successful and popular Taiwanese Mandopop singer Jolin Tsai. Linda’s new song “World of Two People” [二人世界] is the Cantonese version of Jolin’s “Street of Love” [愛上了一條街] which was released back in 2000.

“World of Two People” [二人世界] – Linda Chung – download
Please note: The song is ripped from the radio, so the quality is bad.
What do you guys think of the song?
When I first listened to the song, I thought it sounded weird and didn’t like it. The melody isn’t nice and there isn’t a catchy hook or chorus like in Linda’s previous songs. My favorite part of the song is probably when she sings “La-la-la”. Curious about what the original version sounded like, I searched for the song on YouTube. After listening to Jolin’s version, I think Linda did a good rendition of the song. Still, it doesn’t change my mind that it is my least favorite Linda song.
I’m really hoping that the rest of her CD is not remakes. I want new, original songs! This way Linda has freedom to sing as she wants and doesn’t have to worry about imitating the previous singer’s vocals. Furthermore, it’s just fresher to hear “new” songs. I’m disappointed with this song. Here’s hoping that the rest of her songs are a lot better…
New series
Despite launching her music career, Linda will not be taking a break from TVB.
After the great results of this year’s A Journey Called Life, Producer Leung is reuniting the three main cast for a brand new series. In August, Kent Cheng, Steven Ma, and Linda Chung will be filming new series [有狗出更] translated as “With Dogs on the Beat”. The series is a cop drama. Steven’s role is different and refreshing. Although he will be the protagonist, his role is a “villainous” protagonist. Finally, we won’t see Steven as a 100% good guy as we have been in the past few years.
Just like Steven, Linda’s role is also unlike her previous roles. Continuing to strengthen and prove her versatility in acting, Linda’s new role is a girl who is unkempt. She doesn’t know how to take care of herself and is messy. She only has “big dreams” and doesn’t function too well realistically. Linda has been waiting for a role like this and thinks she will be able to perform the role well because she herself used to be the same way. Before she came to Hong Kong and lived on her own, she didn’t know how to be independent. It is only slowly through the years that she’s been in Hong Kong that she was able to “grow up” and learn how to take care of herself and things. In the series, Linda will be filming with animals; she thinks it will be cute.
Linda is currently creating a new look for herself [for the role]. She always has long hair, which gives people the impression that she’s a “good girl”. While she doesn’t refute this impression, she just wants to give everyone a refreshing look. She doesn’t know what new hairstyle she will have yet, but she thinks it should be cute.
I have clashing views on this series.
On the one hand, I’m thrilled that Steven & Linda are reuniting for the third time. The chemistry will be even better. I’m also excited about their individual roles. On the other hand, I’m iffy about the storyline. I’m praying that there aren’t going to be talking dogs. The theme of animals reminds of upcoming When a Dog Loves a Cat. Someone told me that this series sounds like Man’s Best Friend (with Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan, and Sammi Cheng) because of the use of dogs and police. I really don’t know what the storyline for this series is going to be about and I’m not exactly a fan of cop dramas, therefore I’m not excited about the “series” itself.
I’ll wait for more news about this series before I say or think anything else.

The more I listen to the song, the more I think it’s not too, too bad. I’m not a fan of the song itself, but Linda’s singing is good. I really hope Producer Leung can produce another nice series like Journey and not fall back into his usual boring/bad/mediocre productions.

i love the song!!!
i have it on repeat already…

I actually like the song (surprisingly after it’s first listen). Yay. It’s not bad.
The new series sounds great. What’s Kent’s character gonna be like?

Hmm…the song is okay. Actually, I haven’t listened to any Linda songs except for one. I don’t have any comment on her singing as of now. As for the new series, I think Steven and Linda will have good chemistry even though I stopped halfway watching A Journey Called Life. It wasn’t that interesting to me. I think many people was interesting in Elaine’s character, but honestly, I don’t see what’s very special about it. Her character was such a “bad girl”.
Anyway, getting back to the series, I actually am a fan of cop series, only if there is mysteries and serious fighting (not like The Academy and On the First Beat).

“I’m not exactly a fan of cop dramas”
So I learned something new about you today. Sadness! I love this genre.
I also happen to think “Catch Me Now” is a superb series.
Well, I guess we’ll never agree on series or books. lol. But from this article, I suppose we do agree on songs.

Linda’s new song is pretty good. It takes a while to get used to. It got me dizzy the first time I listened to it. Haha. But it sounds alright after a while. I kinda like it now. Linda’s voice is nice. Looking forward to her other songs.
I wonder what Linda’s image is like in her new series.
July 11th, 2008 at 2:55 am
Well if Steven Ma is gonna be a villanious protagonist …sounds like the series might be quite complex, exploring with things in the “grey areas.” So I doubt it’ll be light-hearted like Man’s Best Friend or When a Dog Loves a Cat and hopefully so cause I hate nothing more than light-hearted series =).
Heard Bernice was supposedly in this series…do you or anyone know why she is no longer or was that rumour?
July 11th, 2008 at 6:14 am
actually i find her new song okay i had to listen to it a few time to get use to it but after that the tune gets addictive especially the LALALA part lol. i didn’t even realise it is a Jolin song remake and i use to listen to a lot of Jolin songs as well >.>
As for the series i’m happy the trio is reuniting again and i enjoy watching cops series and i hope it’s those serious dark complex ones since i hear that Steven;s character is a villainous type and i really hope it is not light hearted comedy like “Man’s best friend” or “When a Dog Loves a Cat” ……… i wonder if Linda is going to do an afro hairstyle like she mentioned in her blog hehe i want to see how that turns out

I liked the catchy beat of the song. Linda’s voice just rocks!
So glad to hear that Linda will have another series with Kent and Steven!! Hope that it will be a blast…any idea when will it be released?
July 11th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
The song was okay. It sounded familiar for some reason
I wonder how Linda would look like if she cut her hair shorter…
July 11th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
oohhhh!!!! so excited for another Linda-Steven drama! i don’t like the idea of the dogs, but i can’t wait to see Linda in another different role from what she usually has. and Steven too! i’m excited, i just hope it won’t be a disapointment!
July 11th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
As I’ve told you, this is so my type of song. Maybe I’ll start liking Linda more with her singing since I’m not very fond of her acting yet, not that she’s bad or anything. Her voice is definitely different.
That’s nice that they’re all cooperating again. Steven and Linda are becoming like Kevin and Niki. Three series together, golly. It’ll actually be nice if they were to become the next golden couple. At least, it’s better than Raymond and Linda.
July 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
I like this song. haha. Just like Annisa, this is my type of music as well. Just like you Metal, I’m hoping the CD won’t be all remakes… which that probably won’t happen anyway haha.
This drama..!! Can’t wait to see the same three people again. =] I wonder what Kent Cheng is going to be play as.
Thanks for the news Metal!

hmm..not too bad…it gets better after you listen more…..Little Story remains my most favourite of hers..which is why its on my music charats…:D
i also not too fond of series related animals…its just not my genre of series/….

Can you please do a Moonlight Resonance update now: Two official trailers have been released and so has the offical website (incl. Story summary, cast/character summaries and characater relationships).
July 12th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
ahh!! when i heard tat steven and linda were reuniting for a third time, i was thrilled; when i heard that it was going to be a cop series, i was ecstatic; but when i heard that the storyline was related to dogs…it really did remind me of that talking cat/dog series…which really put me off. i was also disappointed that linda doesnt get to play the role of a cop in the series, I’ve been waiting for her to play a strong, independent role for such a long time (something similar to Michelle, Hung Bak Lam in VOH)
July 13th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Thanks for the comments everyone!
MC3 – Aww that’s nice. Hope you buy her CD!
Ah lui – No info. yet on Kent’s character.
tvbtoday – Really? I thought you watched Best Bet and Heart of Greed. Linda sang the themesong for the former and had a duet in the latter. She also sang the duet for A Journey Called Life‘s themesong. Unless you fast-forward all of the themevideos and ending credits, I think it’s not possible to not have heard Linda singing before.
Please give Journey another chance! It is one of the most realistic, inspirational, and meaningful modern series in recent years. It may be slightly boring initially, but later on it is so gripping and intense.
The Academy and On The First Beat are the only two “cop dramas” I’ve really seen and I only watched them because they aren’t the typical cop dramas. I watch for the characters.
TkN – I don’t like cop dramas because I’m not a fan of cases and procedural dramas. I like family-oriented drama/comedy. I like character dramas because I like to relate [to the characters and stories] and become drawn into the series. Series about cases aren’t my thing. I like continuation. Like I said in my Forensic Heroes review, the cases were great, but they quickly fade from my mind. What I remember are the four characters.
cx839 – I guess the song “grows” on you, but I think Linda’s voice matches beautiful ballads more. Whatever her new image is, it should be refreshing.
JJ – Bernice’s role in the series was rumored only. There was never any confirmation. Perhaps Bernice was initially considered for the role. Perhaps Bernice rejected the role. No one but “insiders” really know for sure.
yennie – I really hope she doesn’t do an afro. That would be horrendous.
drey – Generally, series release 6-9 months after they are filmed. Unless it is a “special” production like Moonlight Resonance, then there are exceptions. This new series won’t be out until 2009.
Lavendar_Bluez – Same here. Personally I am not an animal lover. Lol.
kimmy – I really want to see Linda in a strong and independent role too! Perhaps in 2009… Apparently Linda’s role is a police dog trainer, which is something new and fresh.

As much as Annisa (from previous post) hopes that Linda and Steven become the next Golden Couple, i don’t think they will be. TVB are currently heavily promoting Linda and Raymond as one of the Golden on-screen couples. I don’t think Steven and Linda will be recognised and loved as much as Raymond and Linda. After all Steven is much older than Linda. He’s more like her elder brother. No doubt there would be chemistry but very little chance of being the Golden couple. Ray and Linda are a better match agewise.
As for the song, listened to it once. I think it sounds a bit dated and although I do love the la la la bit, Linda’s voice is just too weak. Particularly towards the end where it becomes very squeaky and with repetitive listen, her voice just becomes monotone and there is no contrast or power in the singing. I actually prefer Myolie to her. I have heard Myolies’s song ‘Fortunately’ from one of her dramas. Her voice was very strong and powerful. Sorry for all those who disagree but I don’t think Linda is ready to launch her singing career yet. I don’t understand why TVB are in a rush to turn all their artists into singers – Just because Raymond Lam was successful, it doesn’t mean everyone else will be. It’s all about trying to cash in and make money. Raymond did it because he has a massive fanbase and because he truly is a good singer. But he needs a good song to showcase his good vocals as well and it’s not easy. From my point of view, Raymond is the only one who I would consider to take his singing career seriously. He is also the only one from TVB who has the potential to leave TVB and become a full time singer. The rest, I’d say, dont’ even think about wasting time to release albums…Kate, Ron, Bosco, I’m sorry, stop pollution the music industry – none of them are qualified singers!!

She should stick to acting.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Glow-worm – Steven & Linda will never become a “Golden” couple, but at least they are recognized and appreciated by the audience.
Their pairing was praised when A Journey Called Life was airing and of course they have fans since their first pairing back in Virtues of Harmony II.
Myolie’s CD is coming at the end of the year.
I agree that a good song is crucial — and this song just wasn’t matching for Linda’s voice. I also agree that it sounds “dated”. I do hold hope that her other songs are better/good.
Actually, TVB doesn’t have anything to do with artists getting music contracts. Perhaps they might help open discussions, but it is ultimately the record companies that decide whether or not to sign the artist. TVB can’t force music contracts. I do agree that Ray will probably be the only TVB artist that can succeed as a singer. However, it’s still exciting for fans of other artists to watch their idol try something different.

Don’t group all cop dramas together now.
I certainly watch for characters too, and their wit in cracking difficult cases. “Catch Me Now” is not a drama of difficult cases, however; characterization is its crux, definitely. [But anyhow, I am not trying to sell the series.

Whoa…, Metal, you are very “high” now, and will be in the “high” state for couple of months. After this song, Linda has “Moonlight”, “Demigods”, and “Gem of Life” line up to great you!
July 14th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
How can I download the song? It’s super cutee! I love Linda’s voice. Especially the lala part! Hehe[x
July 14th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
shaw – Yeah.
I’m really excited to watch all of her upcoming series and buy her CD. The next few months will keep me very occupied.
Nancy Nguyen – I’ve edited the post and added a download link. Enjoy!

I think the song is bad. “Swear” is heaps better. Linda downhills with her voice by the way she made it “lower”. Her voice is chicken and to avoid it, she lower it and the result is worst. Before, her voice is only weak. Now it’s weak and pasty. The “Lala” part is stupid to the lyric. I don’t think Jolin’s song can be that bad when remake. If the other songs of her debut album are the same, I really doubt of the successful. Linda’s voice isn’t that bad, she should sing with chicken voice. It’s better.
July 17th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
lol, the new series title is like “On the First Beat”(????)
July 19th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
After I read on what MetalAZNWarrior said about the song, I was reluctant and I didn’t expect much after I downloaded the song. I really thought it would be bad. I was kind of disappointed. However, to my own surprise, I really like it. I like the melody and Linda’s voice especially after lalala..part (I believe it’s chorus part). I’ve not listened to the orignal song from other singer sang the same song before.
I’m having it playing and playing for a while on my computer when I’m surfing the net. I’m not saying it’s the best but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Looking forward to listen to other songs of Linda. I can’t watit to get the original CD.
