I’m happy when TVB pulls another attempt at ancient costume series like War and Beauty, but I would be much more happy if they churn out some wuxia material. It’s been so long! The last TVB wuxia series was Twin of Brothers (Raymond Lam, Ron Ng) if I remember correctly. (No, Devil’s Disciple (Kevin Cheng, Bosco Wong) does not count!) Please, TVB. I want some whip-whoosh flip-flash elegant sword fighting, not more concubines scheming. That said, I think this series has a very solid cast and I’m glad, very glad Myolie is taking on the evil role here instead of Jessica. Otherwise, my only qualm about this series is the costumes. Maybe it’s just me but the colors of the costumes are so bland and almost wallflower-like, especially Macy’s. (I know she’s a maid but still.) The accessories are ugly in comparison to anything from Beyond the Realm of Conscience. These are royalties! Give them more radiance! Maybe the lighting during filming will help, hopefully.

I don’t have much to say about this production. To be exact, I actually don’t know what to feel about it because it could go either way. Most shows based on Wong Fei Hung that are made seriously can be very good, but even then, the name is still overused. The last time TVB made a series about Wong Fei Hung, the main males here Bosco, Kenneth, and John were in it. Deja vu much? In addition, I’m watching Dicky Cheung‘s somewhat comedic version right now. I mean, to what extent of creativity can they reach to produce a Wong Fei Hung drama that’s potentially different and fresh?

The tentative title is Household Army or Home Corps (居家兵團).
Producer is Lam Chi Wah and the drama is a modern, family comedy. Screenwriters are Yuen Siu Na and Suen Hou Hou.
Cast includes Liza Wang, Ha Yu, Kevin Cheng, Bernice Liu, Mandy Wong, Adrian Chau, Daniel Chau, Angela Tong, Christine Kuo, Timmy Hung, Claire Yiu, Peter Lai, Vincent Wong, Ha Ping, Lam Sau Yi., etc.
The main family consists of Liza Wang, Ha Yu, Kevin Cheng, Mandy Wong, Adrian Chau, and Daniel Chau. They will be of the lower-middle class.
Liza Wang will be the head of the household while Ha Yu, her husband, will be a retired government employee.
Liza and oldest son, Kevin Cheng, will manage a home service company in which the rest of the family also help.
Bernice Liu will be an uneducated restaurant hostess as well as mother to an adolescent boy, in name only. She has a bad record due to taking the rap for her father’s crime but she is not a bad girl.
Mandy Wong will be a girl with a strong personality.
Christine Kuo will be a teacher from overseas.
Timmy Hung will be a physical education teacher, who is rather shy. He has an unrequited love for Mandy.

ROFL! Bernice taking on a combination of Ada Choi‘s Seung Hei (Fate Twisters) and Linda Chung‘s Ka Ka (A Journey Called Life)??? Give me a break! Other than the two veterans, the cast is horrid. It will be a lot of work for Liza and Ha Yu to make this show even worth skimming. I don’t know about the Chau brothers but based on Don Juan DeMercado, Christine is not exactly actress material. But alas, I’ll catch a glimpse for Kevin, Mandy, Timmy, and Angela. Still, Lam Chi Wah needs to stop with these "residential" shows. Didn’t he learn his lesson with The Family Link?

Tavia Yeung will be a liberal studies and physical education teacher.
Ron Ng will be a cop, specifically an inspector of the regional crime unit who is responsible for patrolling certain schools. Fellow cops include Lee Sing Cheung, Lee Kai Kit, and Stephen Wong.
Linda Chung will be a bowling instructor and the younger sister of said triad member under Moses’ hunt. Linda’s character is cool and does not like to joke.
Ronald Law will be leader of the rebellious students and Angel Chiang will be one of them, characteristically vain and flirtatious. Cilla Kung will also be part of the gang.
The romantic storyline is essentially a love square. Moses, Tavia, and Ron form one triangle while Moses, Tavia, and Linda form the other triangle—something like Linda likes Moses but Moses likes Tavia and then Ron likes Tavia but Tavia likes Moses. You know? Anyway, Moses and Ron will both chase after Tavia. Moses, however, also pretends to fall in love with Linda in order to achieve his undercover goal(s). Meanwhile, Ron will already be dating girlfriend, portrayed by Jess Shum, but because she forces him to marry her, he later likes Tavia. According to the Scoop clip, Tavia rejects Ron. Still, it is not confirmed that Tavia will end up with Moses.

The premise of the show sounds okay, entertaining to say the least. (No, I have not seen the Stephen Chow movie.) But I’m not sure it can last for 30 episodes. That number just seems wrong and LONG to me for a school/police comedy. Needless to say, the cast is appealing (to me and some) and refreshing thanks to finally shoving Ron into a series with Moses AND Linda—two people he has not (never?) really collaborated with before.

Kevin Cheng will portray a bum who had quit from being a barrister.
Myolie Wu will be a poor but enthusiastic barrister. She will do anything as long as she can get the right results.
Sam Lee will be a scoundrelly social worker who is out to help the weak.
Joyce Tang will be a housewife who later becomes a paralegal/legal assistant.
Jazz Lam will be a lawyer.
Sharon Chan will portray a prostitute who is friends with Myolie.
Mandy Wong will be a solicitor as well as Myolie’s roommate. She is a down-to-earth pragmatist.
As for relationships, there will be two love triangles, one involving Kevin, Myolie, and Joyce and the other involving Sharon, Eddie, and Sam. It’s been said that Sharon will pair up with Sam. The outcome of the main love triangle, however, is unknown.

The title sounds great and all, but man, same old, same old. It will take prosecution of a mass murder case to get me to the screen and right now, I doubt that will happen since Fury sounds like stuffing Survivor’s Law, Bar Bender, and Seed of Hope together. What do you know? It’s a 3-in-1 package, how … averagely bulky.

Hongwu 32 Costume Fitting

The tentative title is Hongwu 32 (洪武三十二).
Cast includes Joe Ma, Michael Tse, Sammul Chan, Kate Tsui, Elanne Kong, Skye Chan, Macy Chan, Sire Ma, Kaki Leung, Charmaine Li, Yoyo Chen, Joel Chan, Lau Kong, Wilson Tsui, Lee Ka Sing, Carlos Ng, Ruco Chan, Angel Chiang, Benjamin Yuen, Gordon Liu, Fred Cheng, Mary Hon, Savio Tsang, Felix Lok, Dexter Yeung, Joey Law, Vincent Wan, Jess Sum, Joey Mak, etc.
Producer is Wong Wai Sing and the drama is 30 episodes.
The overall story revolves around Chu Dai (朱棣), or Emperor Yongle, and takes place before the voyages of Cheng Ho (鄭和) to the Western Ocean. (This explains why Sammul is not listed first.) The emphasis is more on investigation of cases than historical importance.
Joe Ma will portray Chu Dai.
Sammul Chan will be the famous eunuch Cheng Ho, during his younger years.
Michael Tse will be an imperial guard, specifically a Gamyi Wai. (For Vietnamese fans, that would be Cẩm Y Vệ.)
Kate Tsui will portray the owner of a brothel, who’s secretly also a Gamyi Wai.
Elanne Kong will be a princess, younger sister of Chu Dai. This is her first costume drama.
Joel Chan will be the current king, Chu Wan Man (朱允炆) or Emperor Jiangwen. He is Chu Dai’s nephew.
Skye Chan will be Chu Dai’s consort while Kaki Leung will be Wan Man’s consort.
As for the romantic relationships, Sammul likes Elanne but she likes Michael while Michael is also involved with Kate and Jess Sum. Sire Ma will fit somewhere into all of that as well. However, for now, we know that Elanne and Michael will be a bickering couple and they will have a happy ending regardless of the chaotic love web. (It’s complicated. Wait for the cast map, lol.)
Filming has already started and is estimated to complete in July.

I love historical dramas as long as they are well done! If you’re not much of a history nerd but you’ve seen Funniest Stories of the Ming Royalists also known as Love Through Different Times (Zhang Ting, Xu Zheng), you should have a basic idea of what Hongwu 32 will be about. And actually, the recent TVB series In the Eye of the Beholder (Moses Chan, Myolie Wu) did mention Cheng Ho a lot. Basically, how Chu Dai usurped the throne was rather ambiguous as well as what happened to his nephew Chu Wan Man afterward. I really love the version of this "conspiracy" in Ming Royalists and would be delighted to see an alternative explanation. However, I highly doubt Hongwu 32 will go anywhere into depth with that piece of history as it appears somewhat laidback—a bit more serious than Man in Charge (Kenneth Ma, Leila Tong) but nowhere near as intelligent and/or grave as The Conquest or Vagabond Vigilante. Nevertheless, I am anticipating this series, especially for Sammul and Kate, who is gorgeous in that flamboyant, seductive get-up. As for Elanne, well, cute but nothing special.

7 Days of Isolation Costume Fitting

The tentative title is 7 Days of Isolation (隔离七日情).
Cast includes Steven Ma, Sonija Kwok, Bosco Wong, Patrick Tang, Koni Lui, Yuen Wah, Mimi Lo, Eric Li, Lily Lee, Yu Yeung, Lee Kwok Lun, Angelina Lo, Kwok Fung, Yvonne Lam, Cheng Tse Sing, Rachel Gan, Yvonne Ho, Oceane Zhu, Evergreen Mak, Casper Chan, Ching Hor Wai, Gill Singh, Brian Burrell, Shum Po Yee, Joseph Yeung, etc.
Producer is Leung Choi Yuen and the drama is 20 episodes.
The overall story involves a variety of people, all quarantined in a hotel for two weeks. (Reason is unknown, probably some sort of outbreak/epidemic or some other crazy, illogical disasters since this will be a dark comedy.)
Steven Ma and Sonija Kwok will play a married couple. Both are thieves who rob the bad.
Bosco Wong will play a CID, responsible for preventing crimes from happening in the hotel; thus opposing Steven and Sonija.
Bosco will be romantically related to Sonija, Mimi Lo, and Oceane Zhu.
Patrick Tang will be a bellboy at the hotel while Koni Lui will be a manager.

I think the cast from the sales clip was better, but hey, a Steven and Sonija collaboration is totally welcomed! Although Mimi is everywhere these days, she’s always a plus to the supporting cast, and she looks very chic here. As for the plot, the idea sounds interesting, but more details are required to know if the script could be any good.
