If only TVB series were actually as attention-grabbing and world-shattering as their promotional videos, seriously, I would be more of an enthusiastic blogger. (I’m in no way using this as an excuse for my lack of intelligent compositions. It’s the truth.)
That said, I found this teaser last night and boy, did it get me jumping up and down for TVB releases later this year! The dramas included are chronologically, Growing Through Life (Damian Lau, Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong), Heaven and Earth (Bowie Lam, Kenny Wong, Moses Chan, Charmaine Sheh), tentatively Women Hurt the Most (Maggie Cheung, Joe Ma), Gun Metal Gray (Michael Miu, Felix Wong, Jessica Hsuan), Can’t Buy Me Love (Charmaine Sheh, Moses Chan), and last but definitely not least the semi-sequel to Rosy Business (Sheren Tang, Wayne Lai). Will 2010 mark a new era for TVB?

Beyond the Realm of Conscience (TVB, 2009) Thoughts 18
Many forms of entertainment are judged on the foundation laid by other similar forms of entertainment simply because there has to be a baseline, a scale of sorts. You don’t know how good something is until you’ve seen something worse, just as you wouldn’t know how bad something is until you’ve seen something better. There are exceptions. Certain dramas are so uniquely good, they shouldn’t be compared to anything else. Similarly, obscenely bad dramas don’t deserve to be compared either. Beyond the Realm of Conscience is one of those exceptions and it, unfortunately, falls into the latter category.
I jumped onto the bandwagon back when Beyond first started filming because I firmly believed I would one day witness a glorious, fascinating, poignant, outstanding hybrid of two magnificent hit productions–War and Beauty and Dae Jang Geum. What I failed to remember is that this is TVB. What I failed to notice is Choi Ting Ting. Choi has done her fair share of scriptwriting, some of which include Last One Standing, Forensic Heroes II, Burning Flame II, To Catch the Uncatchable, Slim Chances, Hard Fate, Always Ready, and soon-to-be-aired A Watchdog’s Tale. Most of her scripts are decent and I had enjoyed some of them. However, I overlooked the fact that she wrote The Threshold of a Persona. And guess what? I feel the same indifference for Beyond as I did Persona. Seriously, I don’t get why TVB didn’t pull Cheung Wah Biu (Heart of Greed, Moonlight Resonance, Rosy Business) over to write the script for Beyond? Why? Beyond has everything! Everything!! All but a golden script …

I jumped onto the TVB Channel at YouTube just now and watched the funniest and cutest NG clip from Beyond the Realm of Conscience yet. Lee Kwok Lun is so adorable! I agree with one of the comments left for that clip. Lee Kwok Lun appears to be very different from his evil and ambitious character in Beyond, or rather, any of his other roles that I’ve seen. TVB generally typecasts him as the villain or as the annoying, loud, and ornery person, which Lee has nailed really well in all of his roles. However, this limits his ability and versatility as an actor. Based on this clip, I would love to see Lee play a down-to-earth, loving husband or father, and I strongly believe he could be just as good as Paul Chun.
On a lighter note, Kevin Cheng protecting himself in the last 2-3 seconds of the clip also triggered my crazy laughing mode. That made my day.
