Stars on Weibo 18

Ever heard of Twitter? If you haven’t, I don’t know what to do with you. :P

Ever heard of Weibo? If you haven’t, now you have. And that’s what I’m going to introduce, spazz about for the next 980+ words.

For the longest time (since Twitter started), I’ve continued to dream that TVB artists would get tweeting because I wanted to know them better through themselves, not through the media. But alas, not too many joined and Bernice Liu is probably the only active, remaining tweeter. The reason is probably because Twitter got banned in China. Although I don’t get how that affects Hong Kong, I assume it’s because most artists travel often and don’t want to face the hassle of getting an external application. Nevertheless, my prayers didn’t go to waste, THANK YOU Sina.

An Analysis of TVB Cliques 6

I’m sure many of you have already heard about the corruption fiasco surrounding Stephen Chan, who was the host of Be My Guest and General Manager (GM) of TVB. If you have not, please read the news here. I did not plan on posting anything about this since the news have been spreading 1000 mph around the internet highway. But more news seem to pop up everyday regarding this matter and involving more artists and opinions. In addition, I think as TVB fans, it’s important to be aware of what’s going on with the company, even if it’s not as great as it used to be. The whole situation also makes for some very interesting business/political drama. And who knows? You might get more insight into what’s really going on behind-the-scenes, how the company is treating your favorite artists, or even where the brighter/darker future of the company may be.

What I’m posting here is a translated article about the 4 parties found in TVB. Whether the details are true is not something I can tell you, but I think the article is a very good read–direct, honest, and sound. I will also collect all news regarding this matter and make a list linking to them at the end of this post. That way, we’ll have a "library" of this case. I won’t be writing any thoughts about this matter yet, because it’s still too early to speak. I don’t want to sound like an idiot, pointing fingers here and there when I know little to nothing about what’s hidden beneath the cover. I might make some comments once we hear of an actual verdict and understand the story in its entirety.

Please keep reading for all the awfully juicy details.

Cupid Stupid: 01 3

Fate, it is a philosophical concept and no proof exists to support or defy its existence. Yet, the majority of us believe in it. We believe there is an invisible thread tying our paths together. We believe there is someone out there meant only for us. Nevertheless, because we cannot control what is in store for us, we look for ways to tell us what to expect, to foresee our fortune, search for our success, and find our love. Depending on your culture and exposure, you can choose to believe in the zodiac, horoscopes, tarot cards, numerological signs, or fortune cookies. Personally, I’m not one to hunt for my daily horoscope or lucky number, but the romantic side of me does take interest in zodiac readings and astrology, and I do believe in fate, which I think Cupid Stupid uses implicitly well to build up its background story and budding relationships.

In a nutshell, Cupid is a refreshing cliché. I know it’s a contradiction, but let me explain. I say it’s a cliché because well, the premise of the show is a destined love triangle involving one woman and two men. How many times have we seen that before? Maybe not as the spotlighted central story in a TVB series but often enough, right? However, Cupid stands on its own (so far). The script manages to carefully lead one character to know another without making it appear forceful. The directing gives Cupid a nice atmosphere, and the three main characters are all very likeable. Albeit my praises, I don’t think Cupid will be any sort of long-living masterpiece or addicting drama drug. But it will probably serve as good lighthearted entertainment.

TVB Sales Presentation: 2010 3

Capturing attention immediately with fast-paced, gory vengeful action and ending with a bang, the possibility of TVB actually living up to its “Good Show” motto is high in 2010. The overall feeling of the sales presentation is grand. Other than a miss here or there, many shows appear promising. I am excited!

TVB Anniversary Nominations: 2009 4

There is approximately one week until we find out the results to this year’s TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards, which will broadcast on December 4, 2009. With the ever-raging voices of fans supporting almost the same batch of nominees, it will be interesting to see whether TVB decides to listen to the masses or continue with their we-don’t-care favoritism tactic. Of course, the latter has a higher chance of happening, as we all should know by now, but last year’s awards proved that to be somewhat wrong. Perhaps, a miracle will light upon us this December.
