When Ah Wong gets fired from "Tung Mat Yuen," he tells Nim Chi and Sa Sa that he has younger brothers and sisters to support. He goes working hard to make money to raise his family because their situation is very difficult. However, after he's re-hired and in later episodes, he's made out to be a young man who frivolously spends his money on name-brands and his many girlfriends. He doesn't have any responsibilities at all, his younger brother and sisters aren't mentioned, and he supposedly has a nice and comfortable family.
"Gai Dai Foon Siu" is sometimes seen as a modern series and at others, it's an ancient one. Lack of consistency or is "Gai Dai Foon Siu" a mixture of both ancient and modern societies?
Is Ma Chi a good cook or a bad one and what kind of foods can she make? It is often joked that Nim Chi's foods look good, but taste terrible. It's also stated that she can only cook a limited amount of dishes. Yet, from episode to episode, her cooking changes. She can miraculously make lots of dishes that tastes good! She even cooks for the customers of "Tung Mat Yuen" in certain episodes! Is Nim Chi really a bad cook or is her skills just an easy target for inconsistent jokes?
There's an immense inconsistency with Sa Sa's hairstyle. It is said that Law Bing made her have her mushroom hair in episode 189 when she was a child. Yet, during her teenage years, she had long hair. It was sometimes curly in pigtails and at other times it was long and straight. She was also depicted as being really geeky with glasses. In her 20's, it was shown that she had long straight hair in pigtails as she watched over Ah Nin, Ah Yuet, and Ah Yat. Isn't it said that they grew up with their image of their beloved auntie with mushroom hair? During episode 307 in another flashback of her schooling days, she had no glasses, had long straight hair and looked very pretty. If she had so many different hairstyles in the past, why did she revert to the cursed hairstyle that Law Bing, who she hated, cut her when she was a child? It doesn't make sense, especially when Sa says to Wong Sheung when he urged her to get make-over that she likes her mushroom hair.
"Themevideo #04" misses the final "Bom bom bom bom bom" lyric after the line "unity will create miracles." Instead, the lyrics for "unity will create miracles" is shown the entire time that "bom bom bom bom bom" is sung. The "unity will create miracles" lyric should have been taken off after the basketball scene with Ng Sau and Nim Chi is shown because Nancy Sit finished singing that line then and the "bom bom bom bom bom" lyric should have shown during the dancing.
In episode 23, Mandy compliments Ah Yat on her acting in "Sai Kwan Dai Siu." How did Mandy get to get "Sai Kwan Dai Siu" if it didn't air on TV or released overseas until winter 2003? It's funny that there were advertisements for "Point of No Return" even before it was released.
The keychain that Alex, Ying Gei's ex-boyfriend, gave her was clearly a "Hello Mimi" wooden keychain as shown in episode 14. However, in episode 77, it was a plastic "Hello Kitty" figurine keychain!
How could Ah Lo and Ah Yuet have brought lunch from home to "Ka Yan?" While they were walking, Ah Yuet carried nothing while Ah Lo just had her bag. It's unlikely that Ah Lo had placed the bag with their lunch in her bag. Yet, during lunch hour, Ah Yuet comes into the lounge with with a big bag containing their lunch packed from home! He even states, "It must have spoiled from the heat during our long walk to the company." If they weren't even carrying it to the workplace, how could it have appeared in "Ka Yan" and spoil from heat of the sun?
In episode 92, the family's plates of food for dinner is covered by a food cover (table/food umbrella?). Sa Sa hands out the bowls of rice and opens the food cover, exposing the dishes and closes the food cover and sets it by her side because they're about to eat. The camera then zooms into Gam discussing Yuk Gong. It then shows Ah Lo and Ah Yuet's displeased faces at Gam's comments and the food cover is seen still over the food! The food cover remains until the last second of the scene and is never taken off again.
During the part where Gam mistakens himself to be Wong Sheung's son, he asks Ying Gei if she knows how old the boss's son is. Gam answers that he's 33 years old (referring to himself of course). Gam is actually not 33, but 37.
Ah Nin could hear what Joey said about "not liking someone" and the "need to tell that person immediately as to not make misunderstandings deepen" at a distance and yet he couldn't hear Joey's father-daughter conversation with Wong Sheung only a few tables away? It's arguable that the lunch restaurant had a lot of people and that Ah Nin was busy with a client, so he couldn't hear what Joey said to her father. It can also be said that the evening restaurant was more vacant and so he could hear what Joey said far away. In any case, Ah Nin has some hearing problems.
Gam was exaggerating his experience in school and Nim Chi rebuttles and tells everyone what he was "really" like in his younger days. Nim Chi must have forgotten they only reclaimed each other a few months ago and that 7th sister raised Gam since he was a baby and should be the only one to know about his schooling days. Perhaps 7th sister and Nim Chi met (in an unshown meeting) to discuss about Gam's past, but that's unlikely.
Gam discovers that his lucky yellow scarf belongs to Man Gwai Fei. When she sees it again, she screams out of happiness and brags about how there's a limited supply of it in the world and that she's one of the few to have it. She boasts that it soaked in expensive perfume for a year and is made of the finest threads before being sold. Later when Gam gets the scarf back and finds that he's being haunted, Gwai Fei tells him that her grandmother gave her the scarf as a sentimental gift to her before her death. So who really gave her the scarf?
The reason Mai Gwai gave up his crush on Ah Yat was because he discovered that she loved kids. When they were in the park, she was changing a baby's diaper for a couple that were new parents and criticized their ignorance in parenting. Yet, later on during the part where Ah Lo brings Lily's baby daughter home, Ah Yat exclaims that she's afraid of kids! In a previous episode, Ah Mei was the only one who could quiet a crying baby in "Tung Mat Yuen" and was praised for her maternal nature. Yet, when she was with Mai Gwai, she said she hated kids and that it scared her the most. This was the reason why he shifted his love towards Ah Mei because they both hate kids. Perhaps both Ah Yat and Ah Mei both had a change of heart according to the way the storyline in the script develops.
Why is Sugar filing taxes for the first time in episode 170? She's been working for "Ka Yan" company for over three years, meaning that she should have filed taxes for the "first time" much earlier. Why did she approach Ah Yuet and ask him to help her file taxes because it was her "first time" doing it? Did she evade taxes during her previous years of work?
During eps 190s to early 200s, there was an immense inconsistency with Joyce Chen's hair. In certain scenes it was curly while immediately in the
next it was straight. Not only that but the straight hair was varied as well! Sometimes the hair was brown and at others it was black. It appears that she was in a crisis
of indecisiveness over her hair! This proves that TVB doesn't film in order or sequential episodes, but rather by scenes in certain locations.
There is an error in the number of years that Ah Lo worked at "Ka Yan." In one episode, she says that she and Ah Yuet have worked at "Ka Yan" for the same amount of years. Actually, she joined "Ka Yan" later than Ah Yuet did and only met him after transferring to "Ka Yan" to work.
GiGi didn't participate in the dance competition because there wasn't enough men in "Ka Yan." So why was she dancing and in the dance frenzy, hype, and anticipation with them in the office the day before the competition?
Chan Kiu was exaggerating about her body and beauty at "Tung Mat Yuen" after Ng Sau saw her naked. The Kams pleaded her to shut up because it brought back memories of the time when they all saw her naked. "Just when those images started to fade and fled from our minds, your words call them hauntingly back..." Actually, Ah Lo and Ah Yuet did not see her naked the last time, so this invalidates their lines.
Nim Chi says that Ah Lo is probably only a couple years older than Ah Yuet. He defends his wife and says they are the same age. Ah Lo is really a couple months older than him. He's 26 and she's 27!
After Ah Lo breaks his M18 model, Ah Yuet goes about desperately to find another copy. The owner tells him that he'll try to find the model for him and to leave his name and address so that he'll contact him if he gets hold of another M18. Yet, Ah Yuet says "Ok" and walks out of the store without leaving any information. Was it because he was a regular customer that the owner already knew? If he did, then why would he even ask Ah Yuet for his name and address?
Ah Yuet used his left hand to put the flakes from Gam's sock onto Ah Lo's dress so that she would develope a rash and be unable to attend a party with Richard there. However, when she discovers that he was the one who ruined her plans, it was his right hand that had the rash (from touching the sock)!
Man Gwai Fei is "catching affairs" at Llama Island (and inadvertely sees Ah Yuet with Ah Mei there) and tells her friend that everyone who cheats does it in Llama Island. She claims that her boyfriend is no exception and that she has caught him too. Since when did Man Gwai Fei have a boyfriend?! Isn't she single?
When Richard comes to the Kams' apartment in episode 301, he meets Sa and says that Ah Lo mentions that her cooking is very good and that he's lucky to get a chance to taste it. In previous episodes, Ah Lo often complains that Sa's cooking skills are terrible!
In all of the advertisements for "Gai Dai Foon Siu," it is clear that it airs at 9:00 PM weekdays. Yet, in episode 320, it's on before 9:00 PM because in the background you can see the sunset giving the room a nice golden glow.
In episode 365, Ah San sees Ah Lam naked, however, if you look closely, you will see a noticeable top of Linda Chung's strapless black bra at the bottom of the screen. In the very next second, you see Ah Lam from behind with nothing on. Bad filming and editting!
In episode 327 when Ah Yat and Ah Lam are attacked in the woods, they team up and beat the robber with two grapefruits. During their fight with the robber, they throw their purses onto the ground and leave without picking them up. Yet, in the scene right afterwards, they are at the mall with their purses!
When Ah Wong enters "Ka Yan" for his first day on the job, he is wearing a white-collar button-down shirt with a pocket on the left breast and no undershirt. After everyone gives him tons of drink, he has to go to the bathroom. When he comes out, he meets Wong Sheung and frantically asks what his job is at the company. However, the biggest shock is that he is wearing an undershirt, the shirt is whiter, and there's no breast pocket! Strange how Ah Wong magically changed his shirt in the toliet stall.
In episode 329, Gam, Ying Gei, Ah Yuet, and Ah Lo are discussing who would take over Ah Lam's Merchandising Manager position in "Ka Yan" if she left to pursue an acting career. Gam says that Ying Gei should take over because she's been working at the company for 30 years. She is only 39 years old, so it's impossible for her to have labored in "Ka Yan" for so long.
Ying Gei makes a business booklet for Man Gwai Fei that showcases her achievements for "Ka Yan" as a birthday present. On the cover, it says "1994-2004," meaning she's been with the company for 10 years. In the beginning of the series, it was revealed that she had worked for "Ka Yan" for only 6 years.
Nim Chi hurt her left arm trying to help Ah Sing by giving the Island Chief a back massage. Gam tells the family that they must support Ah Sing and everyone says he's right and raises both arms up. Nim Chi, forgetting that her left arm was broken, does the same and further pains her left arm. In the next scene, the family goes to form the word "victory" with their arms to show Ah Sing their support for his quest in marrying Princess Fiona, Nim Chi effortlessly forms the letter "O" with her two arms, the left one still in a sling, without any pain! Shockingly, in the following scene at "Tung Mat Yuen," Nim Chi's sling is entirely removed! Didn't she break it?
Gam teases Sa Sa after she gets her make-over in episode 354 by saying that she looks as beautiful as a Miss Hong Kong. He announces her as "Kam Sa Sa, 38 years old, her measurements are..." Prior to episode 349, she was 39 years old and in that episode, it was her birthday, which would make her 40 years old. How did Sa turn 2 years younger in episode 354?
In episode 352, Sa's parrot flew away because she scolded it for being picky. Yet, one of its feet was clearly chained, so how could it fly away? When it decided to return to Sa after hearing Suki's plan to drug Wong Sheung, it lands back and its same feet is automatically tied again!
When everyone was blaming each other for the misunderstanding that Ah Yat was posing nude to get "quick fame," Ah Yuet scolds Sa for seeing Ah Yat buying a box of cigarets and thinking that she's becoming bad. Actually, Ah Yuet was the one who saw Ah Yat buying cigarets.
Nim Chi was away from Hong Kong because she was in Shanghai visiting Ah Nin. They repeated this in many episodes, but in one of the episodes, someone said that she had gone back to her home village. Shanghai is not Nim Chi's home village. After that episode, they reinforced the fact that Nim Chi was in Shanghai with Ah Nin.
Ah Lo stood up for the family in episode 394 because the restaurant was bullying them and they couldn't get the expensive and rich shark's fin dish that they ordered. Ah Lo not only demanded that they serve them the dish, but even obliged them to give them an even more expensive shark's fin! Ah Lo became very pleased and the family was very grateful for her. Since when wasn't shark's fin considered a rich person's dish? Didn't Ah Lo's pregnancy cause her to vomit at the sight of rich foods? So why would Ah Lo demand expensive shark's fin?
Ah Nin says that everyone in the Kam family have dry hair when Ah Lo goes and buys them hair shampoo for oily hair. In an earlier episode, Sa Sa had said that Ah Nin, Ah Yuet, and Ah Yat have different types of hair. That is why the family's monthly expenses are so high.
Why does Ah Lo have a bottle of bird's nest? Once again, she is eating expensive foods when her pregnancy supposedly made her vomit. Or is the effect of her "maid's stomatch" only prevalent during the early stages of her pregnancy? Or is it because she had to have the bottle of bird's nest otherwise Ah San wouldn't have $4,300 to give to Ah Lam as a fine for his resignation without a month's notice?
In episode 365, Ah San sees Ah Lam naked, however, if you look closely, you will see a noticeable top of Linda Chung's strapless black bra at the bottom of the screen. In the very next second, you see Ah Lam from behind with nothing on. Of course Linda isn't going to film the scene actually nude as it was required of her character, but at least they could have filmed more above than they did or they could have cropped it while editting to make the top not visible. Bad filming and editting on the crew's behalf!
In episode 392, Ah Lam tells everyone that she's afraid of animals and that is the reason why she refuses to ride a horse. She doesn't like animals because they're furry/hairy and scary. They test her by showing her a bunch of things with fur and she's fine, but when it comes to the actual animals, she freaks out and makes a mess at the Kams' apartment. In episode 402, Ah Lam is seen playing with a dog! She doesn't look a bit scared and seems to be an animal lover. Did her fear for animals die out after Ah San showed her that horses weren't scary and that animals could be her friend?
In episode 401, there's an inconsistency with Ah San's hair! One minute, it is gelled and combed to the side while in the very next second there is cleary no gel and it is combed straight down his forehead! This scene was probably filmed in pieces at different times maybe because of too many bloopers. Perhaps they just remembered what they wore in the scene but Steven forgot that his hair was gelled the last time he filmed it!
Ah Lam takes Ah Yat to the temple to see the shrine of her deceased family members. All of the Hungs (her dad's side) have died from an inherrited heart disease when they reach 28 years old. Ah Yat reads from one of the monument and calls Ah Lam's aunt "yi ma." "Yi ma" refers to an aunt from her mother's side of the family. The plate should have read "goo ma," meaning the dad's sister. However, it read "yi ma." What would Ah Lam's mother's sister have to do with the Hungs? Even if she married another Hung family member, which is not likely, her DNA wouldn't have the gene for the heart disease anyways as she doesn't have Hung blood in her.
In episode 440, Ah Lam visits the temple where her family is buried. She tells her parents that she will see them again soon, but is worried that they will not recognize her because they died when she was only 2 years old. She then mentions her "goo jer" (aunt; dad's younger sister). What is good is that they corrected the careless error of having Ah Lam (or rather Ah Yat) call her aunt "yi ma" in episode 408, which would mean her mom's sister (this goof is explained in an earlier goof listed!). The bad thing is that the writers tried to make Ah Lam's death more emotional by saying that she was only 2 when her parents died. They forgot that Ah Lam was shown as a grown child in the hospital with her uncle, Ng Sau, when her father was pronounced dead on his birthday. It is because Ng Sau mentioned that no "Hung" family member has survived 28 years of age due to a sudden, inherrited heart disease that Ah Lam begins to worry about her future and acts the way she does in regards to life and love. She wouldn't have known or understood anything if they truly died at 2 years old! Also, why is Ah Lam's mother mentioned this time? Her plaque was not shown the last time that Ah Lam and Ah Yat visited the temple and no one mentioned her before. Was it because she didn't have "Hung" blood in her so that is why she wasn't important to mention last time?
Why is Ah Yat afraid of water and doesn't know how to swim in episode 435? She asked people to go to the beach with her to swim in episode 365. Eventually, Ah Lam went with her and this caused the situation with her changing in the men's bathroom and getting seen by Ah San. If Ah Yat didn't know how to swim, why would she ask Ah Lam to go to the beach with her before?
When Ah Lam runs away on her wedding day for a contract, she jokes to Ah San that she is "money hungry" and hands him her bouquet and she starts to run down the flight of stairs. Ah San stands there with the flowers looking confused as everyone joins him in watching Ah Lam run away. In the very next shot of Ah Lam running away, she clearly has the bouquet in her right hand! It seems that they shot the scene of Ah Lam running away down the stairs first and then shot the dialogue scenes. Too lazy to re-film?
How could "Tung Mat Yuen" have its 30th anniversary in episode 443? Sa Sa told Nim Chi in episodes 140's that the 30th anniversary of "Tung Mat Yuen" was in two more months. A few years had passed since episode 140's, so why is "Tung Mat Yuen" just then celebrating 30 years in the finale?
